Tomorrow I will join a cool event, called Random Hack of Kindness (RhoK). Sponsored by Google, Microsoft, Yahoo, and Australian Embassy, I was invited to give a thought how to solve the disaster recovery in Indonesia.
I love the event from the first sight. Since from the event I can create something useful for disaster recovery, it means that I can give something for the country. Another reason why I join them and delaying my France exam (which occurred at the same time) is..going to lab.
It’s not a medical lab or a mechanical lab. It’s a software engineering lab. It’s only just a luck (from God) who bring me into what I’m working on now. Now I’m working as an IT consultant who had many clients and implementing the same methods and works recurrently. It’s quite challenging to deal with people, make a negotiation with customer, build networking (having 3 times better $$ job offering from customer in the first 2 years), and the important thing, mixing hard and soft skills.
No, I’m not a type of person who had a bad soft skill..although I’m not that good :P But the most important thing why I’m thinking to quit is because of lab. Yes, those 3 letters. L, A, B.
You know what, working in Silicon Valley is cool. Working in one lab in Silicon Valley is great. You are working in the center of Technology Development, which make you keep updated in what is the newest technology developed instead of reading Chip, Info Komputer, or another Indonesian local Technology magazine.
And I’m sure that tomorrow, one location in Thamrin will be one great mini lab which filled in by many geeks who want to contribute to the country and also to have an exposure from big company which has a great software lab.
A friend asked me a simple question: “now you’re part of the biggest IT company in the world..why don’t you join their lab?”
For this question, I just can give a smile then :)
